Étienne André Philippe, known as Philippe de Prétot , (c.1710 to 1787) was a French scholar and geographer.  Aside from his numerous publications, not much is known about his life.  Appointed by the King, he was responsible for supervising the reprinting of the Latin classic in French, including the works of Catulle, Tibullus, Properce, Sallust, Virgil, Horace, Juvenal, Perse, Phèdre, Lucrèce , Velléius Paterculus, Eutrope and Terence.  His atlas "Universel pour l’Étude de la Géographie et de l’Histoire Ancienne et Moderne (Universal Atlas for the Study of Geography and Ancient and Modern History), published just after his death in 1787, is his most renown original work.  This map of Ireland is a very fine example of now scarce maps from the atlas.
