Hervé Télémaque (1937-2022), was a Haitian-born French artist known for his significant contributions to the Pop Art and Nouvelle Figuration movements. He was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and moved to Paris, France, at the age of 17.  Télémaque's artwork often incorporated a mix of vibrant colors, bold shapes, and playful imagery. He drew inspiration from diverse sources, including comic books, advertising, and popular culture, blending them with personal and political themes.  He employed various techniques and mediums, including collage, assemblage, and vibrant brushwork.  His works frequently contained a sense of humor, irony, and social critique and explored issues of identity, race, colonialism, and culture.  His contributions to the art world are highly regarded, and he remains an influential figure in contemporary art.  The Centre Pompidou owns 18 artworks by Télémaque; MoMA possess three of Télémaque's artworks including the untitled painting known as The Ugly American.
