Color serigraph after Piet Mondrian's 1943 painting "Broadway Boogie Woogie", printed on wove paper, from the limited edition of 150 "A Portfolio of 10 Paintings".  Published and printed in 1967 by Ives-Sillman Inc., with the publisher's dry stamp in the lower left corner.  Sheet size: 17 x 17 inches.  This is one of the most beautiful serigraphs ever done of a Mondrian painting, with "Broadway Boogie Woogie" being his last, and one of his most famous paintings.  The use of yellow was inspired by New York’s Yellow taxis, and its vibrancy was inspired both the "Boogie Woogie" dance and New York City's streets.  Compared to his earlier work, it is divided into many more squares.  The serigraph is in mint condition.

Ives-Sillman, Inc., was one of few publishers to produce serigraph prints in monograph portfolios.  For two decades, 1958 until Ives’s death in 1978, Norman Ives and Sewell Sillman published monograph portfolios of noted artist Josef Albers, Jean Dubuffet, Willem de Kooning, Roy Lichtenstein, Piet Mondrian, Diter Rot, and others.

Piet Mondrian (1877-1944), was a Dutch painter.  Although he is best known for his abstract paintings made from squares and rectangles, Piet Mondrian started out painting impressionistic landscape paintings.  Mondrian called his style of geometric abstracts “Neoplasticism”.  When Mondrian made his paintings, he would always mix his own colors, never using the paint directly out of a tube.  As a founder of the "De Stijl" school, he often used black, white and the primary colors: red, yellow and blue.  Mondrian's skill was precise, and he did not use a ruler to measure out his lines.  In 1940, towards the end of his life, Mondrian moved to New York City, and there created some of his most iconic works.  Music, in particular Boogie Woogie and Jazz, became great influences in Mondrian’s work, as exemplified in "Broadway Boogie-Woogie".  He is regarded as one of the greatest artists of the 20th century.  "Broadway Boogie-Woogie" is in the permanent collection of MoMA, and considered one of its most important works.
