"Child with Angel" is an original signed limited edition (31/50) woodblock engraving by the Italian artist Alessandro Nastasio created for his 1974 exhibition at the Phyllis Lucas Gallery in New York. Sheet size 14 x 11 inches; print size: 6 3/4 x 6 3/4 inches. Mint condition new old stock.
Alessandro Nastasio was born in Milan in 1934. In 1947, the Albanian painter Hibraim Kodra recognized his Nastasio's talent, and started him in search of his artistic path. In 1952, he followed the "free school of the nude", held by Aldo Salvatori. In 1967, Nastasio obtained a professorship at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, and for thirty years he dedicated himself to teaching art in various schools. In 1960 he attended Giorgio Upilio's Atelier where Giacometti, Lam, Fontana, De Chirico worked, and had the opportunity to study their themes and techniques. An assiduous reader of great texts of antiquity, he trained in particular on the Bible, which he illustrated with woodcuts, aquatints, etchings and linocuts, especially the Song of Songs, the book of Ecclesiastes and several pages of the Gospels. Nastasio also drew his inspiration from the philosophical-religious tradition of the Eastern world through the reading of Rig-Veda, Upanisad and Rumi. Phyllis Lucas of the Phyllis Lucas Gallery introduced him to Salvador Dalí and published a number of Nastasio's prints, including "Child with Angel". He continues to live and work in Milan.
